Major Number, Minor Number and Device Driver

Device Driver – I a compute program that operates o control a particular type that is attached to a computer.

Major Number is used to tell the kernel which device driver has to be used. All devices controlled by the some device driver have a common major device number

Minor Number is used to tell the kernel which device has to be accessed. For example second hard disk has a different minor number compared to first
